Although this monogram is commonly interpreted as VB, we suggest reading it as BV, referring to Beneventum (see RRSC Vol 1, 2024, for a fuller discussion). This interpretation is supported not only by the coin’s chronology and probable mint, but also by the construction of the monogram itself. From a typographic perspective, the letter B would not fit naturally within the left stroke of the V and is more plausibly placed to its left. A comparable arrangement is found in type V21, where the O of the KOR monogram likewise appears to the left of the K.
