The reverse of this Dupondius features the famous bridge over the Danube, one of the most remarkable feats of Roman engineering. Commissioned by Emperor Trajan and built between 103 and 105 AD by the architect Apollodorus of Damascus, the bridge was constructed with wooden decking on stone piers to facilitate the swift movement of Roman troops during the Dacian campaigns. Its scale and strategic significance made it a powerful symbol of Roman might, celebrated not only on coinage but also in the reliefs of Trajan’s Column.
