C. Vibius C. f. C. n. Pansa Caetronianus. AR Denarius, 48 BC. Obv. Mask of bearded Pan right, hair decorated with three rows of berries; behind, pedum; below, PANSA. Rev. Jupiter laureate, seated left, holding patera and scepter; on right, C·VIBIVS·C·F·C (!); on left, IOVI·SAXVR (legend in straight line). Cr. 449/1b; B. (Vibia) 19; RRSC D241.1b. AR. 3.76 g. 18 mm. RRR. Extremely rare variety in the reverse legend. Sound metal and choice example. Minor die breaks on obverse. About EF. The variety on reverse is attested on a denarius of the Sant'Anna (Modena) hoard. (Crawford 1974, p.464).
