Caius and Lucius Caesars standing facing, two shields and two spears between them; above, on left, simpulum right, and on right, lituus left. RIC I (2nd ed.) 207. 3.69 g. 19 mm. Nice example, well centred. Lovely light cabinet tone with golden hues. Slightly off-center. About EF.

Caius and Lucius, depicted on the reverse of this denarius, were adopted by Augustus as his successors. Neither survived the first emperor, dying very young, one in AD 2 and the other in AD 3. Augustus later adopted Tiberius as his successor.
