Ex Classical Numismatic Group E-321 (2014), lot 427. Son of Agrippa I, upon his father's death, Agrippa II was in Rome for his education. Emperor Claudius did not grant him the throne of Judea because of his age (17) and placed the kingdom under the rule of a procurator. Agrippa nevertheless made himself useful to the Romans and was crowned in 50 AD. He is remembered as a vassal king of Rome who was completely subjugated to the Romans. In fact, all his coins also bear the portrait of an emperor. When the Jewish Revolt broke out in 66, he worked to achieve peace, repeatedly trying to persuade the Jews to surrender, remaining constantly on the side of the Romans, who rewarded him with territories that enlarged his kingdom. Little is known about the last years of his life, which probably ended after 100 AD.
