OCTAVIAN. Denarius (30-29 BC). Uncertain Italian mint, possibly Rome.

Obv: Laureate head right, as Apollo.
Rev: IMP - CAESAR.
Rostral column ornamented with two anchors and six beaks of galleys, surmounted by a statue of Octavian, with spear and parazonium.

Ex Numismatik Lanz München, December 2011. The monument pictured on the reverse depicts the rostral column erected on the Palatine Hill, in front of the Temple of Apollo, to celebrate Octavian's naval victory at Actium against Antony and Cleopatra.
