The inscription EX AP : ARGENTVM PVBLICVM (“public silver”) refers to silver belonging to the Roman state treasury (aerarium populi Romani). Its presence on certain Republican denarii emphasizes that the coin was struck from officially sanctioned metal, underscoring the legitimacy and authority of the Roman state in monetary production.
