The Danish Farmer’s Bank was founded by Hartvig Abrahamsson Gedalia, a saddle maker who traded bonds and shares as a sideline. By 1910 it had become the largest bank in Scandinavia. But only a year after this medal was struck the post-World War I economic crisis pushed the bank to near-failure from which the state was forced to bail it out.
