Marcus Aurelius (161-180). AR/AE Fourrée Hybrid Denarius, Rome mint, 174-175. D/ M AVREL ANTONINVS AVG. Laureate head right. R/ IMP VII COS III. Draped Felicitas standing front, head left, holding long caduceus, vertical, in right hand and cornucopiae in left hand. Cf. RIC III 304, 314-315 (for reverse). 2.63 g. 17.5 mm. Contemporary counterfeit, the copper core is exposed on the edge. Extremely rare and intriguing, this coin represents a hybrid using different obverse and reverse dies that usually aren't paired or a combination of legends which is not used on any official issues. A very interesting study piece. VF.
