Ethiopia. Haile Selassie (1930-1974). AR 5 Dollars, 1964 EE (1972 AD). Commemorating Emperor Yohannes IV (1871-1889). AR. 20 g. 40 mm. Yohannes IV (born Lij Kahssai Mercha; 11 July 1837 - 10 March 1889) was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1871 to his death in 1889 at the Battle of Gallabat, and king of Tigray from 1869 to 1871. Throughout his reign, Yohannes demonstrated selfless devotion to the defense of the territorial integrity of the Ethiopian Empire against successive waves of external aggression, by Egyptians, Italians, and Mahdists Sudan. He also strove within the parameters of what was possible in his day to promote the welfare of his people. Encapsulated by Classical Coin Grading PF 68 Cameo.
