Ex Gorny & Mosch 204 (2012), lot 1749. The decurions of Alexandria Troas were part of the city’s local elite; under Augustus, the city became a Roman colony known as Colonia Augusta Troadensis. The decurions were members of the city council (the ordo decurionum), which generally consisted of about 100 people who managed the colony’s administrative and political affairs. The reverse of this coin offers us a precious and rare depiction of a public and political context of the time, rarely found in other archaeological sources.
