Helmeted head of Athena right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet pushed back and adorned with serpent; her features finely modelled / Nike standing left, holding wreath in extended right hand and stylis in left; AP monogram in left field. This issue from Arados, struck near the close of Alexander's lifetime under the satrap Menes, his trusted administrator in the coastal Levant, bears the AP monogram of the Arados mint. Its Corinthian helmet, finely rendered Nike and full weight standard all attest to the refinement and tight central control of Alexander's imperial coinage in the Near East.
