A very handsome coin in hand. This silver tetradrachm from Herakleia ad Latmon in Ionia belongs to the stephanophoric, or wreath-bearing, series, named for the wreath that encircles the reverse type. Issued in a period of renewed civic pride under Roman influence, it combines refined Hellenistic artistry with a strong sense of local identity and reflects Herakleia's place in the vibrant trade and political networks of Asia Minor.
