Legio XXII Primigenia, stationed at Moguntiacum, modern Mainz, supported the elevation of Septimius Severus and is commemorated here in his legionary series. Coins of the XXII Legion are more common with the reverse legend LEG XXII; those bearing the additional PRI are the rarest in the entire series.
