KOREA. Trial Listing: Korean Charms and Amulets. Edgar J. Mandel. Privately printed, circa 1967/1968. Tall 4to (approx. 29 cm), vi + 144 pages, with numerous black-and-white rubbings and line illustrations. Limited to 235 copies, this being No. 107 and signed by the compiler. A hard-to-find working corpus that set the standard ?Mandel? numbering still used for quick cross-reference, arranged in a practical way by form and iconography, from high-relief groups through shaped pieces (bats, fish, butterflies, horns, fans and related forms), scalloped and octagonal types, weights, and a wide range of round issues divided by motif and script style. The rubbings and drawings make it especially useful for separating close varieties by calligraphy and detail. This example has been professionally case-bound in black cloth with gilt title and a ribbon marker, originally issued in a loose-leaf format, and it presents very well with clean, crisp pages; the original outer cover is no longer present from before the rebinding.
