Attica, Athens. AR Tetradrachm, c. 353-294 BC. D/ Head of Athena right, with profile eye, wearing earring, necklace and crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves over visor and a Pi-style palmette on the bowl. R/ Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent; to right, AΘE; all within incuse square. HGC 4 1599. AR. 16.89 g. 23 mm. Lightly toned with iridescent hues. Slightly off-centre. Rough surfaces. Cleaning marks. Areas of oxidation. About VF. This is probably a restrike on a folded blank. See: Kroll, The reminting of Athenian silver coinage, 353 B.C., in: Hesperia 80 (2011), pages 229–259. However, due to the somewhat crude style, it is also possible that this specimen is an Eastern imitation.
