Faustina II (died 176 AD). AE Hybrid Sestertius, Rome mint, 145-161 AD. D/ FAVSTINA AVGVSTA. Draped bust left hair is elaborately dressed in horizontal lines with ringlets down front: it is coiled in a chignon on back of head. R/ AVGVSTI PII FIL S C. Venus, standing left, holding Victory and leaning on shield, set on helmet. Cf. RIC III (A. Pius) 1370b (for obverse) and 1367 (for reverse). AE. 21.69 g. 31 mm. RRR. Apparently unlisted pair of dies. Roughness and metal flaws. VF/About VF. Extremely rare and intriguing, this coin represents a hybrid using different obverse and reverse dies of the Rome mint, which usually are not paired.
