Extremely Rare RRC 71/1c
Lot # 216
C/M series. AR Victoriatus, c. 211-208 BC Sicily. Obv. Laureate head of Jupiter right; no C behind. Rev. Victory standing right, crowning trophy; no M between; in exergue, ROMA. Cr. 71/1c. AR. 3.14 g. 16.00 mm. RRR. Good F.

Extremely rare variety, without the identifying letters of the C/M series. This is the only existing specimen that proves the link of this anonymous type with the part of the issue Cr. 71 with C/M. In fact, its reverse die is the same of the specimen in the British Museum (inv. 1926,0116.99) with C/nil (Cr. 71/1b). Therefore, we have here not only the identical style with Cr. 1a-b, as noted by Crawford (RRC I, p.15), but also a final proof of his arrangement.
