Antelope above Prow

P. Nerva. AE Quadrans, 113-112 BC. Obv. Head of Hercules right wearing lion's skin; behind, three pellets; before, P [NER]VA. Rev. Prow right; above, horse (?) standing right; before, three pellets; below, ROMA (partly off flan). Cr. 292/4a. AE. 3.21 g. 19.50 mm. A handsome example. Lovely bright dark green patina, with earthen spots. VF. The animal standing above the prow is usually identified as a horse (Crawford), but on this example, the animal has horns and an up-pointed tail, resembling an antelope.
