Ibis holding a balance; on the plates, an elephant and a mouse. Rostovtsev - (but cfr. 1351 for the legend MATI with S and/or AE; and 3202 for Ibis holding a balance). Overbeck -. Turcan, Nigra Moneta 410 (which timidly attributes it to Matisco, present-day Mâcon, France). Arzone & Marinello, Lead Tokens of Museo di Castelvecchio 60. Very Fine. Very Rare, and in none of the studied and published specimens are the elephant and the mouse visible.

Lot # 642 - Seals and Tesserae. Byzantine Italy. Roman Catholic Diocese of Luni. Lazzaro, bishop, circa 6-7th century. Seal or Coin? (Lead, 19.04 x 23.52 mm, 11.00 g). Nimbate and draped bust of the Mother of God facing. Rev. CAC / mARI/A, in three lines. CNI 23 (only drawn). MIR 264 (AE). Minor corrosion. Good Very Fine. Extremely Rare.   A. Bertino (1974 p. 66) affirms that the type of the Madonna can be considered the most recent of the Lunense series and hypothesises it to have been minted around the beginning of Liutprand's reign (712-744). Ricci, on the contrary, places it between 643 and 712.
