Mineia was a noblewoman of senatorial rank in the late Republic. She is identified as the second wife of Gaius Cocceius Flaccus, a distinguished senator from Paestum. With great enthusiasm and generosity, she funded monumental works and statues, such as those dedicated to her husband, her two brothers, her son and her grandson, thereby launching a remarkable programme of construction projects that came to fruition in the historic city of Paestum towards the end of the 1st century BC. Mineia also devoted herself to the restoration of the Basilica.
Her prestige and the legacy she left to posterity are also reflected in the honour bestowed upon her by the issue of this coin, which the local Senate minted bearing her name. The reverse should depict the very basilica she had restored: a two-storey colonnaded building, topped by a gabled roof. Condition: Very fine.Weight: 4.00 g. Diameter: 15 mm.Estimate: € 125
