Egypt. Alexandria. Hadrian, 117-138. Tetradrachm. (Billon, 25.16 mm, 12.33 g). Dated RY 10 = AD 125/6. AYT KAI TPAI AΔPIA CЄB Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian right, seen from behind. Rev. L AE KATOY (date) = year 10; Canopus of Osiris right, beautifully detailed. Dattari 1325-1326. BMC 630. Geissen 284-285. Milne 1151-1153. Emmett 827. RPC III 5574.44 (this specimen). Very Fine. Ex Franco Chiesa, Numismatica Aretusa SA, Lugano, maggio 1977. This interesting Hadrian’s tetradrachm first of all celebrates the "decennalia" of the emperor’s reign figuring on the obverse with an armoured bust and a serene and solemn look. On the reverse is the canopic jar of Osiris, already seen in no. 224 of the collection, but here with major and more incisive details both on the lid with the head of the deity surmounted by the ritual atef crown and the body of the vase engraved with the scenes of the Osiris’ mysterical and processional liturgy where stands out at least a basileion.
