From Giovanni Dattari collection. Ex Kunst und Münzen, Lugano, Auction XXII, 2-4.04. 1981, lot 355.
Despite the two coeval holes made on the coin without defacing the engraved figures, this drachm is in excellent preservation, sharp and legible in every detail and covered with a shining original black anthracite patina. Unique specimen taken from the famous collection of Giovanni Dattari, as unique in the Alexandrian coinage is the scene that appears on the reverse which, given the presence on the shield of the Capitoline Zeus, can be interpreted as an expression of the clearly Roman-centric spirit of Caracalla in the management of the empire that ensured its safety. A therefore relevant historical-political message through the concrete and public means of money.
