Alexandria, standing facing left, wearing turreted cap, chiton and peplos, is holding head of Serapis crowned with kalathos and resting left hand on long sceptre; L Ϛ (date) across field. The introduction of Saloninus Caesar into Alexandrian coinage was to prepare him to succeed his father Gallienus, after the death of his elder brother Valerian II. Sent by his father to Gaul, he fell victim to the usurper Postumus in Cologne in July 260 AD.
