Ex Naville Numismatics Ltd., Auction 40, 27.05.2018, lot 436. Tetradrachm of extreme rarity and exceptional preservation from the famous collection of Giovanni Dattari, the first competent methodical global treatise on Alexandrian coinage. Well-centred coin with unusually high relief engraved figures. The portrait of the ruler Maximian is rather generic, but particularly significant is the scene on the reverse, which depicts the Homonoia, i.e. the ‘Concordia Augustarum’ of Diocletian Jovius ‘Primus Augustus’ with his colleague of the first tetrarchy Maximian Herculean ‘paris Augustus’, which lasted until 305 AD.
