The symbol on the obverse of this coin probably depicts the ‘Soccus’, a type of footwear typically worn by comic actors. It was a light, low shoe without laces, with a leather or cork sole, which men and women also wore normally inside the house. Guests brought them from home and put them on as soon as they entered the house.
