Sicily. Akragas. Countermarked Hemilitron. Punic occupation, circa 405-392 BC (Bronze, 27.53 mm, 18.20 g). Countermarked on a worn flat hemilitron of Akragas with obliterated types. On the original obverse, large countermark of circa 15 mm bearing the head of a youthful Herakles to right, wearing a lion's skin headdress; all within shallow incuse circle. Rev. Blank. Cf. Near Extremely Fine. Ex Asta del Titano 12, 22 September 2002, lot 12. This countermark is usually found on eagle/crab hemilitron of Akragas and was applied to coins during the Punic occupation of the city (circa 405-392 BC).
