Sicily. The Sergetaians, mercenaries. Litra. Circa 340-330 BC (Bronze, 29.67 mm, 30.85 g). ΣEPΓETAIΩN, Head of Heracles right, wearing lion’s skin headdress. Rev. Protome of a bearded man-faced bull left. Calciati 1. Buceti 1. HGC 2, 1241. Green tone. Heavily tooled; however, as usual, struck over a Syracuse litra. We are not inclined to classify it as a fully “worked” piece. If this is indeed the coin, it is Exceedingly Rare and previously unseen at auction.
