Lot # 443
Study Forgeries. Lysimachos, "Drachm". Mid 19th century (Silver, 18 mm, 3.29 g). Head of Alexander the Great right, with horn of Ammon. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ, Athena seated left, holding Nike. The style of the obverse is reminiscent of the portraits created by the Udine-based forger Luigi Cigoi; however, the publication dedicated to him (L. Brunetti, "Opus Monetale Cigoi", Bologna 1966) includes only Roman and medieval coins, with no mention of Greek ones.
