Commentary by GMS: Rare coin dating from the first period of Augustus' Alexandrian coinage following the conquest of Egypt, modelled on Cleopatra's VII last mintage (51-30 BC). Augustus in Egypt was considered a ruler of pharaonic dignity, i.e. of divine origin, as is also indicated on the overse legend 'son of the divine (Julius Caesar)', compatible however with the 'Divi Filius' expressed in the Empire Latin area at the decline of Republican Rome.
