The letter Φ, which appears on both obverse and reverse, has sometimes been interpreted as an artist's signature. The bird on the reverse, if intended as a finch, would be a canting pun for Phrygillos, an artist who signed dies at Syracuse during the last decade of the fifth century. F/About VF.
