ROMAN BONE DICE.
Roman period, ca. 1st – 3rd century AD.
Carved bone gaming die of cubic form, with slightly rounded edges and corners. Each face is marked with circular ring-and-dot motifs indicating the numerical values. The bone displays a warm ivory tone with scattered darker inclusions and minor surface staining. Dice of this type were widely used throughout the Roman world for gaming, gambling, and possibly divinatory purposes. Bone examples are among the most common surviving specimens from Roman domestic and military contexts. Intact and well preserved, with minor surface wear and age-related discoloration.
