ROMAN BRONZE STRAP FITTING WITH FEMALE HEAD.
Roman Empire, ca. 1st – 2nd century AD.
Cast bronze strap fitting featuring a central female head framed by scroll-shaped volutes and supported by an arched frame. The lower horizontal bar is fitted with an iron vertical rivet or attachment pin, originally used to secure the fitting to a leather strap. Such fittings were commonly employed as decorative elements on belts or harness equipment. The classical modeling of the female head reflects Roman decorative traditions of the early Imperial period. Bronze frame well preserved; iron attachment pin heavily corroded but intact.
