This Syracusan decadrachm - possibly engraved by the celebrated master Euainetos during the reign of Dionysius I - represents the summit of classical Greek coin artistry. Issued at the height of the city’s power, it reveals the engraver’s extraordinary talent: the serene, sculptural presence of Arethusa and the dynamic, almost tragic energy of the quadriga elevate the piece far beyond mere monetary function. For scholars and discerning collectors alike, it is not simply a coin but a monument in miniature, reflecting the political ambition, cultural refinement, and artistic excellence that defined Syracuse’s greatest era.
