Sicily. Motya. Circa 400-397 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29.26 mm, 16.71 g). mṭv' (in Punic), Eagle standing right with closed wings; border of dots. Rev. Crab. Jenkins, SNR 50 (1971), pl. 5, 38 (O2/R2, same dies). Campana CNAI II, 378-9, 13A/a (same dies). Viola CNP 500 (same dies). Buceti 14/2a (this coin illustrated, catalogued as 2a but actually belongs to the 1a series). HGC 2, 921 (this coin illustrated). An exceptional coin struck on a very broad flan, in high relief and well centred. Attractive old cabinet toning with light iridescent. Minor edge knock and five small ancient test cuts. Probably the best appeared on sale in recent decades. Near Extremely Fine. Very Rare.
