Cast lead-alloy fitting of elongated form, decorated with two stylized lilies flanking a central human face. The surface is enriched with fine geometric patterns composed of triangles divided by rows of pellets. Based on its manufacture and typology, the piece may be associated with the sphere of pilgrim-related objects.
Mounted on an elegant plexiglass and plastic display stand, included.
49.5 × 20 mm. 5.18 g. Pilgrim badges were typically made of lead alloy, they were sold as souvenirs at sites of Christian pilgrimage and bear imagery relating to the saint venerated there. The quality of pilgrim badges varied considerably, with some being naive and crudely made and others displaying great craftsmanship and skill.
