BRONZE DECORATIVE PUNCH (PROBABLY BOOKBINDER’S TOOL)
Europe, 18th–19th century.
Cast bronze punch with a finely engraved head decorated with symmetrical palmette motifs in relief, likely intended for impressing decorative patterns on leather surfaces, such as book covers. The proportions, workmanship and ornamental design are consistent with tools used in traditional bookbinding or leatherworking.
The shaft is solid and slightly tapering, showing a functional form suitable for controlled pressure or light hammering. A later metal ring is present along the shaft.
Mounted on an elegant plexiglass display stand, included.
