Julius Caesar. Denarius, 44 BC. D/ Head of Venus right. R/ Trophy; on left, chariot; on right, shield, two spears and carnyx; on left, (C·)CAESAR; on right, IMP. RRSC D266; Cr. 482/1; B. (Julia) 13. AR. 4.13 g. 20 mm. RRRR. Extremely rare and among the best specimen known. Beautifully toned and well struck. Scratch on obverse, otherwise. EF. Crawford considers this denarius to be the last one struck by Julius Caesar. According to others, it represents Octavianus’s first military issue.
