L. Hostilius Saserna. AR Denarius, 48 BC. Obv. Bearded bust of Gallic enemy with flowing hair ('Vercingetorix'); Gaulish shield behind. Rev. L HOSTILIVS / SASERN. Biga driven right by charioteer, warrior facing backward holding shield and hurling spear. Cr. 448/2a; B. 2. AR. 3.67 g. 18.00 mm. RR. Nice example of this very rare and fascinating issue, brilliant and lightly toned, with a bold portrait of fine style. Scratch on obverse. Minor oxidations/deposits, otherwise. good VF/VF.
