ANTωNINOC CЄB ЄYCЄB Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left of Antoninus Pius. Rev. [ΦAYCTINA(N) ΘЄA (N)] Veiled and draped bust of Faustina senior, right; on top of the head, small pearls crown(?); Γ Є (date) to upper left. Geissen -. Dattari Savio -. K&G -. RPC IV.4 -. Emmett 1391.5 for reverse type. Toned with some verdigris, a few light scratches. Near Very Fine. Extremely rare with Pius’ bust left combined with the veiled and draped bust of Diva Faustina Senior. Probably unicum. Ex CNG E-auction 467, 06.05.2020, lot 287. Tetradrachm that refers to the previous numbers 257 and 258 of the collection for the celebration of the memory of the late empress Faustina I consort of Antoninus Pius with the unique variant of the bust of the sovereign facing left, so it is not recorded in the major repertoires while Emmett mentions it only for the reverse. Always noble and moving in reverse the veiled image of Faustina in severe majesty of mourning.
