Radiate and draped bust of Serapis Pantheos right, wearing kalathos and radiate crown, ram’s horn round ear; to left serpent entwined around trident, to right cornucopia; L (reverted) Z (date) in upper right field. Emmett 1676. Geissen 1450. Milne 1773a. Dattari-Savio 8729. RPC IV, 4.686.10 (this specimen illustrated). Very rare and Very Fine. Ex Giovanni Dattari Collection. Ex Dr. Piero Beretta Collection, Milano. Another special and very rare drachm already in the collection of Giovanni Dattari. The image of Serapis Pantheos (- Helios, - Ammon, - Nilus, - Poseidon, - Asklepios), of excellent composition and artistic style represents the most authentic and complete expression of religious syncretism that achieves "naturaliter" the synthesis between the Egyptian and the Greek-Roman theology. And the Serapeum of Alexandria was the sanctuary where the entire Greco-Roman-Egyptian Pantheon was gathered around Zeus-Serapis.
