Ex Naville Numismatics Ltd., Auction 43, 23.09.2018, lot 232. ‘Helios in Leo’: a relevant specimen belonging to the famous and successful Alexandrian sequence of the ‘signs of the zodiac’, issued entirely and only in the eighth year of the reign of Antoninus Pius (144- 145 A.D.), particularly appreciated by the emperor who was sensitive to the astrological universe. Helios bust combined with the sign of the right rampant lion, as well as the imperial portrait on obverse are immersed in an original homogeneous chocolate brown colour patina. It should be noted that the juxtaposition of the twelve signs of the zodiac was carried out astrologically and theologically with each of the divinities that accompanied the five planets known at the time in antiquity: Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, plus Helios and Selene.
