Egypt, Alexandria. Antoninus Pius, 138-161. Obol (Bronze, 18.33 mm, 4.74 g). Dated RY 12 = AD 148/9. AVT K T AIΛ AΔ ANΤωNINOC Laureate had of Antoninus Pius to right. Rev. Basket between two torches; L IB (date) below in field. Geissen -. Emmett 1776 (5). RPC IV.4.1146.3 (this specimen illustrated). Extremely rare, RPC lists only 3 specimens. Nice portrait and patina, Very Fine. Ex Empire Coins, The Winter 1987 Sale, 07.12.1987, lot 569. A very rare obol of Antoninus Pius, known only from the repertories RPC IV. 4 and Emmett. Despite its very small size, the imperial portrait is well engraved and perfectly recognisable, as are the obverse legend and the reverse image with the augural symbols of the harvest, thanks also to the excellent centring of the coin. Its illustration on RPC confirms all the above-mentioned merits.
