On this extremely rare drachm we finally have Marcus Aurelius Augustus in his third year of reign with a nude bust in a refined but realistic style that is an unpublished variant of the similar drachm recorded by RPC. The reverse also features the unusual image of the bust of Serapis on a pedestal in the form of a stand for use in celebratory processional liturgies. A well-centred, fabulously patinated coin with a beautifully preserved reverse.
