A valuable diobol of Lucius Verus in splendid condition, practically uncirculated. The engraver is very talented both for the tiny physiognomic portrait of the emperor with the exceptional radiated crown (cf. Staffieri Giovanni Maria, ‘La corona radiata sui ritratti dei bronzi imperiali e alessandrini’ in NAC XLII-2013, pp. 121 144, no. 58 a, this specimen), and for the lively Agathodaemon on the reverse with the Isiac crown. It comes from the collection of Giovanni Dattari where the reverse is illustrated in Table XXXII of the 1901 catalogue, then given the privilege of being illustrated in RPC IV. 4.2532.4 as the best preserved of the only four known specimens.
