Ex Künker, Auction 304, 19.03.2018, lot 1214. “The reverse shows a cargo ship of the imperial grain fleet leaving the harbour of Alexandria”.
This is chronologically the last, much sought-after, and uncommon coin in which the historic building of the Lighthouse of Alexandria appears on the reverse side, from which the cargo ship that transported the crops and other goods produced in Egypt, which was the granary of the empire, was making its way to the Mediterranean ports. Difficult to find, as in this case, with the complete and distinct reverse in every detail of the lighthouse tower and the ship.
