Draped bust of Serapis right, wearing kalathos; in front, palm branch; in left field, LIA (date). Dattari-Savio Plate 234, 9949 (this coin). Emmett 3133. Toned, minor porosity on obverse. From the collection of Giovanni Dattari too, comes this tetradrachm of Severus Alexander with an imperial bust on the obverse and a strong-willed physiognomic portrait of the young ruler, while on the reverse it recalls, with the bust of Zeus Serapis, the Hellenistic Greek tradition of Egyptian theology in which the divinities of pharaonic origin and those of the contemporary Roman world coexist.
