A drachm of great charm, with an expertly engraved coinage, but of low thickness so as to render less effective the typing, which is nevertheless well done, with the complete legend and images centred. This drachm, like others of the same year by his mother Julia Mamaea, belongs to the vast and artistically valuable celebratory series of the ‘decennalia’ of the reign of Severus Alexander. This year the auspicious palm tree, which would accompany the imperial couple until its tragic end in AD 235, also began to appear permanently on the coin reverses.
