Egypt, Alexandria. Probus 276-282. Tetradrachm (Bronze, 18.20 mm, 9.44 g). Dated RY 8 = August-September 282 AD. A K MAYP ΠPOBOC CЄB Laureate and cuirassed bust of Probus right. Rev. Winged Nike advancing right carrying trophy and wreath; L H (date) before, in right field. Dattari-. Emmett 3991(5). Geissen -. Very rare. Very Fine. Ex Empire Coins Ltd., Sale 8, 07.12.1987, lot 807: “Unpublished. An unknown type from a very rare year (he actually died in late August, in his seventh Alexandrian year).” A coin of extreme rarity, recorded only by Emmett with the highest valuation: it is perhaps the only known specimen for this year of Probus' issues, which is reduced to a single month between August and September AD 282 since Probus was the victim of a military revolt in Sirmio precisely in September of that year. Also noteworthy is the exceptional thickness of the coin, practically a piedfort.
