It seems that Elpis, the Hope, which we do not often find on Alexandrian coins, was an important element of the harmony (Homonoia) between the August brothers Carinus and Numerian during the troubled and warlike period of their co-regency (283-284). According to Vogt (I, p. 221), the star on the reverse would indicate a specific mint workshop.
